The gap is not in the child. It is in what surrounds them. A curriculum built for a world that no longer exists. A classroom that prepares them for a workplace that has already moved on.

The robot economy does not wait for curriculum committees. Machines are already doing what previous generations were trained to do. The question is not whether this is coming. It is whether Nigerian children will enter it as builders or as bystanders.

Vendors sell tools. Infrastructure changes what is possible. SMOG was built to be the second thing. Not a programme that runs while enthusiasm lasts. A system that runs because it is embedded.

They see a problem and map its inputs, processes, and failure points before writing a single line of code. Computational thinking as a habit of mind — formed through hundreds of sessions of building, failing, and rebuilding.

AI Literacy
They understand how AI makes decisions, where it fails, and how to direct it. Not awareness — fluency. The difference between a generation that is displaced by AI and one that deploys it.

They have stood in rooms and been judged. Presented to panels. Encountered students from other countries and discovered they belong in those rooms. That formation does not fade. It compounds.

Every session ends with something built. Not studied. Not discussed. Built. Nine years of that. Innovation isn’t taught — it becomes how they think.

The world they will enter does not exist yet. SMOG builds systems reasoning, creative problem solving, and technological fluency — skills that transfer across any industry, any decade, any disruption.

The Conviction

Built before the evidence arrived.

2016–2017

A conviction arrives before any evidence supports it.

Not a business idea. A word.

Africa's technological emergence is coming. And someone must build the generation that meets it as builders — not bystanders.

SMOG begins.

Founded in Abeokuta, Ogun State. 2017.

Before Flutterwave became a unicorn. Before "African tech ecosystem" entered the global conversation.

The word arrived before the world could confirm it.

2017–2018

The first students.

Scratch. Microsoft Office. Coding taught in contexts where it had never been taught before.

The conviction was not yet evidence. The students were about to become it.

First Innovation sessions delivered across schools in Ogun and Lagos.

Coding and digital creation introduced to students who had never encountered either.

2018–2021

The reach expands.

Faith communities. Professionals. Schools across five cities.

A robotics programme in Abeokuta. A multi-year coding and robotics relationship with one of Nigeria's largest churches. An AI experiment in Lagos where a voice kit learned to answer questions using the Bible as its knowledge source.

Coding and intelligence and robotics — deployed in contexts where nobody had thought to deploy them before.

RCCG ChristChurch, Gbagada, Lagos — coding and robotics facilitation for two consecutive years. Multi-year institutional relationship. Documented. Photos on record.

Indigitous Lagos — professional innovation training. Activities: surveillance drone build; NLP experiment using Google AIY Voice Kit with the Bible as knowledge source.

Abeokuta, Ogun State — robotics programme delivered.

Facilitator — Playshop programme. LearningPoint NG's U.S. Consulate-supported free robotics incursion. Workshops in Benin, Akure, Abuja, and Lagos. Students from over 100 schools reached.

1,500+ learners trained across Lagos, Ogun, and beyond.

2019

Two engagements. Two kinds of proof.

First: a technology company comes looking — not to be sold to, but to co-create.

Then: a school in the northeast serving children displaced by conflict. The same programme. A completely different context. The same conviction — that SMOG belonged everywhere the question was being asked. Not just in Lagos.

Softcom Limited, Lagos — March 2019. Formal engagement to co-develop a STEAM education framework and curriculum for Nigerian schools. Project included on-site facility assessment in Maiduguri, Borno State.

North-East Children's Trust Primary School, Maiduguri — assessed. A school serving internally displaced children in Nigeria's conflict-affected northeast.

2020–2021

Two more proofs of the same conviction.

A school in Zaria — a STEM assessment that asks the same question SMOG has always asked: what does this school need to build the students it already has?

And back in Lagos — Festac Town — over fifty children giving up their Saturdays to build things with code. Not because a mandate required it. Because the conviction was always bigger than any mandate.

Zaria Academy, Kaduna State — 2020. Full STEM assessment consultation. Teachers, infrastructure, and student readiness assessed by SMOG Edutech. Engagement with school leadership including Dr. Haroun-Rashid Adamu — President, Yale Club of Nigeria (Yale College, Class of ’70) and founder of Zaria Academy.

Festac STEM Cohort, Festac Town, Lagos — 2020–2021. Saturday after-school Innovation programme. ~50 students. Coding and digital creation. School-hosted. Documented on social media.

2021

1,300 church leaders. Pastors. Missionaries. Ministry workers.

An argument about AI that ended in consensus — technology is a tool. What anyone does with it is a question of morality.

SMOG EDUTECH in the room. Facilitating. Demonstrating. Showing what AI looks like when deployed at mega-church scale.

And a closing line written in that room: "There is so much we can achieve, if only we begin now."

Digital Missions and Church Conference (DMC 1.0) — maiden edition, 2021. Hosted by RCCG Central Missions Board. International conference. 1,300+ registered attendees.

Our Founder: guest speaker. Two presentations delivered.

2022

A deliberate pause.

Not because the work had stopped mattering. Because SMOG understood what delivering this at scale would actually require — and the existing model was not built for it.

Twelve months. First principles.

Infrastructure, not programme. A system that runs every week. Whether SMOG is in the room or not.

Not retreat. Redesign.

Operational redesign — 2022. System architecture rebuilt from first principles.

Teacher independence model. Session pack architecture. Alternating-week delivery system.

The foundation of everything that launches in 2026.

2025

The mandate arrives eight years late.

Nigeria's federal curriculum now mandates coding, AI, and robotics at every school level.

The mandate confirms what SMOG already knew in 2017.

And an alliance formalised — the infrastructure that takes students from the classroom to the world stage.

The system is being installed.

Every school SMOG enters this year is the start of a nine-year student journey — from first session in Primary 3 to the international stage.

The conviction that arrived before any evidence is about to produce more evidence than anyone expected.
